there will be many more pictures to come from this great wedding this past weekend at biltmore. we were lucky enough to be the first ceremony to take place at their new venue diana with the reception at deerpark. the weather was absolutely incredible! perfect weekend for a wedding.

needless to say, both cristin and cutler as well as myself were a little emotional that day. we have been working with them for over a year, and they were really just a true joy. right after the ceremony we definitely were emotional ~ and the incredible jill schwarzkopf captured these moments... and it just gives me chills! here is a teaser with much more to come....

sarah and rob were married at the fabulous new grand bohemian hotel here in asheville. we were thrilled to be a part of their day, and had so much fun getting to know them! they were not only an adorable couple, but had an absolutely stunning wedding as well. as you can tell, blue was the color of the day ~ don't you just love her shoes?!? and the jewelry?!? fabulous.

diana opens at biltmore!

the biltmore estate has a beautiful new venue called diana, and man is it gorgeous! it truly is breathtaking, and a fabulous place for any event. the unveiling of diana was on tuesday night, and we were fortunate enough to be invited and join in the festivities. this picture really does not do it justice...it was taken from my phone - so my apologies! cannot wait to have an event here!

few days in miami

we had a few days of work/play in miami, and thought i would share a few pics. it was my first time in this fun town ~ and cant wait to visit it again already. it was wonderful to lay by the pool some and read a good book. [my sister's keeper = kleenex!] we got to spend some great time with amber holritz, a phenomenal photographer, and had some great dinners exploring south beach. i almost even worked up enough courage to get a tattoo at miami ink ~ but couldn't decide what to get...any suggestions?

i never have the opportunity to say this ~ but i love teachers! and i believe almost everyone in this family is in education! i believe that it takes a very special person to teach, educate, and love like a teacher does ~ and this family was full of love. the engagement started with barron, when he got down on one knee to elizabeth while she was at school! he had pre-arranged everything, and even had the local newspaper from marion to cover the surprise proposal! their fall wedding took place in their hometown of marion ~ the ceremony took place at first baptist, where elizabeth's parents got married years ago, and was followed by a reception at the lake club at lake james. and they had a little love from family ~ the dad is also a caterer, and man was the food yummy! they also had family friends sing in the ceremony, and it was breathtaking. the night got a little chilly, but they kept it hot on the dance floor and had a great time!

most rewarding day

today was one of the most rewarding days of my life, and a moment i will never forget. verge events and our sister company studio wed participated in a drive for sleep tight kids, a nonprofit started by the talented jill schwarzkopf of realities photography. sleep tight kids donates money or bedtime related items for children, including clothing, blankets, toys, and books, either directly to needy families or through partnerships with other non-profit organizations supporting needy families, with a focus on families in Western North Carolina. The goal of the corporation is to promote feelings of hope and comfort in children as they lay their heads to rest each night.

today jill invited me to go donate with her at a women's shelter and it was all i could do to hold it together. we took some of the items from the benefit drive at the end of april ~ and it was like christmas morning to some of these kids. we didn't really know what to expect...as we were escorted in, my heart began to sink a little, prepping myself for the emotion i knew i was going to have. all of a sudden, any problem going on in my life, disappeared. this giving put everything into perspective, and you realize how fortunate you are to have a place to lay your head at night. some moms had hope and some had fear...the gut wrenching emotion that just tugs at your heartstrings. you realize that right now, in your small town usa, there is someone that is hurting ~ there is a child who needs pajamas, a book, a blanket, anything. one of the families let jill take a few pictures, which she has shared with us. when we left, all we could do is cry and know that we had to keep doing this.

i am asking you, whether it is money or donation, please donate to this cause. even if it is $5 or just one pair of pj's, i cannot tell you the importance of donating to help these families.

betsy and heath were married at the beautiful homewood last fall, and they could not have asked for a better fall day to be married by tim lolley. the weather was perfect, and the leaves were just in their most beautiful peak colors, as you can see from the images above from the ever so talented aaron hogsed of aaron imaging. they had fantastic food from 28806 and cake by city bakery - don't you just love this handmade monogrammed runner? tip for couples: put the monogram on each side and have pillows made from it later as a keepsake! once again, blossoms at biltmore park did such a great job with pulling all of the floral together beautifully. and betsy is just as naturally beautiful as they come - and e. scott thompson perfected her makeup for the day.

wanting something different and creative to last a lifetime? one of our brides introduced us to live event paintings. if you google it, a handful will come up, and it is truly amazing what these artist can do! the picture above is from live event paintings by gail fitzpatrick ~ you really should watch a video of her in action. gail also considers her work to be eco-friendly, here is what she has to say, "I like to think that one of the goals of going green is for us to reduce the amount of disposable stuff we produce and use...unlike almost every other object used in the celebration, a painting is not eaten or drunk, or thrown away....my hand-built canvases are made in Maine using sustainably harvested wood and linen canvas. I use water bases acrylic paints which do not require turpentine or other toxic thinners."

what a great way to capture the moment and be green all at the same time!

liz and nate got married at lake eden in black mountain ~ a beautiful wedding and a fantastic couple! liz and nate met while kayaking, so river rocks carried the theme throughout the wedding, along with the "watering hole" bars. getting to know them was so much fun, and i knew from our first phone conversation we were going to have a blast! their families and all their guests were just wonderful and super sweet. especially little henry, their dog, who my pup chelsea was in love with! henry was our mascot at the studio for a few days :) many thanks to dana at orange cat photo for the pics and to blossoms at biltmore park for the fabulous floral design, as usual! and tasty food stations from the colorful palate!

jessica and james had a great wedding at lioncrest on the biltmore estate ~ check out these incredible pics by angela stott. there were so many great ones - i just could not narrow it down - so sorry there are so many! what an incredibly beautiful bride, and the sweetest groom...one of the things i love about my job is the opportunity to be with the couple at the most intimate, and personal times. i am often the last to see the bride before she walks down the aisle, and the first to see and congratulate the bride and groom as they come back up the aisle as husband and wife... and the last to see them as the head through the departure line and off for for the night...it was at this moment that james gave me a hug and said, "you were born to do this"...and he had no clue how much that meant to me. i wish you both all the best!

how many times do we see beautiful wedding flowers go to waste after a wedding? well, unfortunately all the time. there is a great new non-profit in town, second bloom, that will come and pick up all the flowers and distribute to nursing homes. This allows those in the nursing homes who may have had to give up a love of gardening to re-engage in activity that is satisfying and rewarding. what a fantastic idea!! so before you throw away those flowers - please consider second bloom!

what a beautiful day and a beautiful couple! ashley and kevin were married on the biltmore estate at lioncrest. the theme was one starry night, and the weather held out for us and gave us just that! there is nothing that i love better than to have a personalized ceremony...ashley's mom stood and read a tearjerker of a poem right before ashley and her dad walked down the aisle. now, i am known to cry at weddings ~ it doesn't matter how many we do, they just get me, but this along with their vows they wrote for each other was just beautiful. and the decor was just amazing thanks to the ever-so talented blossoms at biltmore park. the flowers you see above was an actual floral chandelier. ashley had seen a picture of one in a magazine, and it was executed to perfection. just fabulous! it was not long until the night was hoppin to the soundsof dylan from blazin' sounds entertainment. thank you very much to jeremy russell of corey mcnabb photography for the incredible pictures. jeremy, you were a pleasure to work with, and captured every moment of their wedding beautifully. you rock!!!

southeastern harp weekend

back in october we got the opportunity to put on the largest harp conference in the country right here in asheville, nc! this was a new type of event for us, as this was the first year we have been involved. we began planning in january for the big weekend...from lodging to registrations to meal plans ~ you name it we did it, and had so much fun! everyone was so incredibly nice, and just happy to be at this great retreat in the beautiful mountains. we have had grammy award winner harpist janet harbison as a presenter, that's her in the picture above. we are now working on the southeastern harp weekend 2009 ~ hope to see you there!

just thought i would share a few - leave it to us to go parasailing the day before tropical storm dolly rolled in - we actually were the last couple that went up before the storm. had i known what was going on, i may have thought about this one a little more - oh well, we had lots of fun! this gorgeous picture on the beach was shot by my husband ian - this was the storm coming onshore - and then there is me in the pouring rain. hey - you gotta have some fun! we had ran outside to see what was happening in a moment of no rain, and well, got caught in the rain. if you are already wet, you might as well get soaked!

so these pictures are long overdue - it seems september and october have just flown by as we have been in the craziness of wedding season....and it's been fun!

back in july, i had the great opportunity to travel to riveria maya, mexico to be with christie and brandon for their beautiful beachfront wedding. could life really get any better? not only did i get to do what i love, but also reconnect with an old friend. you see, christie and i graduated high school together ~ and had not chatted since then. you gotta love the internet and how you can find old friends! we had so much fun ~ and even braved tropical storm dolly together! thankfully ole' dolly decided to make her presence a few days after the wedding. the funniest part was we had no clue why the weather had all of a sudden taken this turn for the worst...thanks again to the web, we found dolly had quickly formed, and was making her way right across us! it was not bad enough to leave, but bad enough you hoped it did not get any worse!

back on a monday in june, we had so much fun with erika and rick. erika was fabulous from the beginning, and i loved helping her design her wedding! she loved lavendar, anything vintage, and j and s cafeteria pies ~ which were the "cake". i loved their individuality, and their love for each other. she vowed to watch dr. who, and he vowed to rub her feet every night. they were married at beautiful homewood, and we loved meeting the girls from whitebox weddings ~ check out the fabulous pics! i hope you are lovin' boston and miss maya is doing well, take care!

so as i began reading our blogs from the wedding season, i realized i have failed to mention a key person, the officiant tim lolley. we will do everything we can to make your day perfect and seamless, but the one thing we can't do is marry you! and that is why we love tim...he is reliable, has fantastic ceremonies, and just an all around great guy. he has done most of our weddings this season, and we look forward to many more! thanks tim :)

we had great weddings on memorial day weekend, and one of them was that of heather and scott at lake eden. when i first met heather last summer, she had a very clear image in her head of what her wedding day looked like ~ and that vision was incredible! she had a southern themed vision in her head, complete with fabulous southern treats from the colorful palate, a beautiful pink, brown, and lace color scheme, and you gotta love a smores bar! not just hershey bars for the chocolate ~ we had reese's peanut butter cups, heath bars, and the list could go on...yum! the cake was fabulous, thanks to cakes by jane. and of course the whole day was captured by michael juiliano... check out this slideshow!

we had a crazy weekend of events on june 14 ~ and seeing this couple so happy reminds us of why we do this every week. jennifer and melissa [our rockin' intern] was with beth and paxton for their wedding at lake eden in black mountain. they just had so much fun the whole night ~ and the pictures certainly show it...thanks to tuesday's frog for the pics. and of course, major props to blossoms at biltmore park for the fabulous decor! this tent by artful shelter was just phenomenal, and party band crocodile smile had the party hoppin :)

for the past year, i have had so much fun getting to know, and becoming friends with, jennifer and mike. jenn and i just hit it off from the start, and i looked forward to every meeting we had. what a great wedding they had at the pavilion on crest mountain ~ we could not have asked for better weather! we had a consistent theme of green and yellow and lemons and limes oh my! the floral and decor was phenomenal, as usual, by blossoms at biltmore park. we were complete with sofa lounge and cigar bar and fantastic wine made by the groom's father. and the cake...well, it may take the cake. it was fabulous ~ thanks chez nous!

for nine months, ian and i have waited for this bundle of love from our best friends, justin and matt. we have been so fortunate to be a part of their pregnancy ~ they told us by showing us the ultrasound, we got to help in the nursery, throw them a baby shower, and got the call bright and early this morning that it was that time. mattie [as i lovingly call him] called and asked if we were ready to have a baby today...needless to say we were in the car in 15 minutes! ian and i have always called him 'baby d', because we did not know if it was a boy or a girl.

and now baby d has a name, and his name is jack, and he is beautiful! my heart and congratulations go to justin and mattie ~ we love you, and so happy to have this new one to love...you guys are in our thoughts and we hope that jack is ready to come home soon!

there have been very few times that i have not met a couple until their rehearsal day, and this was one of those times. we have tried scheduling visits, but it never quite seemed to work out. so as i was delivering welcome baskets for their wedding, i ran into jackie and perry checking in ~ and we just knew who each other were! after many phone conversations and emails, they were just as fun and pleasurable in person as they had been this whole time.

and the wedding...it was breathtaking. the ceremony was on the vista of the inn on biltmore estate with the reception following inside. the flowers were beautiful as usual, from blossoms at biltmore park and i had the pleasure of working with dana from orange cat photo once again ~ i can't wait to see the pics! chris of mr. c's mobile dj had the party rockin' with all the songs the couple had chosen ~ what a party! ....but i have to say that the toasts definitely take the award for best i have seen. we are still laughing from them ~ they were great!

you guys were so much fun and we wish you only the best...and thanks again for the wine!

the first weekend of may we had 3 fabulous weddings ~ i will post some pics as soon as i have them. we spent saturday may 3 out at lake eden with brandi and cameron, who we met last january and have been with them for over a year...the rain held off, and it was beautiful!

on sunday may 4 we had weddings at taylor ranch and in the biltmore estate's butterfly garden. again, another day that mother nature worked with us and was beautiful! kimberly and bryan ~ we had fun with you and so glad your family made it on time :) criss and niall [i finally learned how to spell it!], thanks for entrusting us in your day. we only had 3 weeks together but we pulled it together and you had a beautiful day! best wishes to you all.

roadtrip!

my husband and i took a long weekend trip to d.c. last week before wedding season begins ~ and what fun we had together! we drove and stayed with family while there, which was so nice and relaxing. i had way to much fun shopping, and i am fortunate enough to have a husband who enjoys it to :) it was all so wonderful to getaway and just spend time with the hubby. i kept saying i just needed one more day, and well i got it. we got a flat tire in south hill, va [if you want a great laugh give me a call] and ended up getting towed to durham, nc and being holed up in the local hilton for about 24 hours while the tire was ordered and put on [really, you should call me...you will get quite the laugh!] needless to say we made the most of it and were very thankful to be home!

on sunday we had the kick-off event for the asheville area arts council ball we do every year. it is a fashion show featuring all local boutiques, designers, hair and makeup artist. we had a good turnout and raised some money for the ball and sold some tickets for the event in june! it all turned out very well ~ and i have to thank jennifer shatley for all she did, what a lifesaver! [that's us in the picture with her husband, dean, board chair for the aaac.] the renaissance hotel donated the space and is a sponsor for the ball ~ without our sponsors it just would not happen! enjoy the pics from my hubby.

we are in the news! as many of you know verge events is expanding and opening a new business, StudioWed. it is a business venture that i truly believe in with all my soul ~ and making life easier for couples getting married is my passion!

the asheville citizen times did an article on our expansion ~ and i am so grateful. we have gotten lots of positive feedback and i am reminded by how lucky we are to be surrounded by such supportive vendors in the asheville wedding industry. thank you all for your support!

we have had some weird weather here lately...and yesterday it was rainy all day. and there is nothing better in my book than a cute pair of rain boots to make the day a little more fun! i found myself jumping in puddles acting like a kid ~ and it was great!

okay...so i cannot believe that we are now in march! this is crazy planning time for us ~ so we have lots of long hours in the office, and before you know it, the day is gone. we are going to have so many fabulous events this year ~ and i cannot wait to share some pictures...

we also have expanded and moved locations in the past month - i will be sure to post some pictures as soon as all the furniture is in. my husband took this picture tonight as we left lowes [for about the 113th time this past month in getting the new space ready]. the clouds were just amazing...we had tornado warnings all night here. it was spooky yet beautiful!

new year's isn't only the start of a new year in our house, it is also my hubby's birthday! he was the first baby of the new year in abingdton, virginia ~ and made the front cover of the paper that morning. so it is a special day in our house...we brought in the day with our dear friends, and had such a nice time! happy birthday babe, i love you!

thank you all for a fabulous 2007. we are so lucky to work with the best brides and the wonderful vendors we have in this town. we also were fortunate enough to have a few fabulous corporate and private events. we met and exceeded our goals and are looking forward to an even better 2008! thanks again to all who help make us successful and allow us to keep doing what we love. happy new year!

this past week we planned a fabulous christmas party in a private home here in asheville ~ and what fun! i am lovin' these parties, if you can't tell :) we had delectable eats from 28806, and beautiful decor from blossoms at biltmore park ~ who decorated the home inside and out for the holidays. i think i am in the spirit, even though it has been quite warm outside...i'm ready for some snow!

i cannot believe a month has passed since my last post ~ the holidays are among us, and time is just flying by! hope you all are enjoying this festive and wonderful time of year.

"forever to thee" is part of the south carolina alma mater. this past week a tragedy happened in ocean isle, nc ~ 7 students were killed in a fire at a beach house, 1 student from clemson and 6 from the university of south carolina. as many of you know, i attended usc and it remains near and dear to my heart. my heartfelt sympathy and thoughts remain with the families and the community of the university of south carolina. the university president, dr. andrew sorensen, says it best when he quoted:
"no man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent"—from 16th century Anglican priest and poet John Donne. "If I may adapt that observation to the 21st century and the University of South Carolina," Sorensen said, "no Gamecock is an island. When any one member of our family is lost, every one of us is diminished. I'm profoundly saddened, as are all members of Gamecock Nation, by these tragic deaths."

last week my sister and her family came to visit us from south carolina. [that's us in the pic] all of us hiked table rock, an 8.2 mile hike ~ quite strenuous for someone who has never hiked before [that would be me!] but the views at the top were worth it, and just breathtaking. it was great to get away and enjoy the fresh air and the peacefulness you can only find at the top of a mountain.

how fast october is flying by! on thursday night, the 18th, we worked with a new place in town to get relaxed and pampered ~ who doesn't love that! sister company to spa theology in downtown asheville, suraj spa salon had their grand opening. what a beautiful place ~ it is modern, edgy, and yet so relaxing all in one! we had a great turn out, and fabulous food by your secret kitchen in gerber village. best of luck to you guys, and know you already have one new spa client...me :)
and on saturday, we did a fundraising party for carolina mountain land conservancy in hendersonville - what a great company and a great cause. they are dedicated to saving the land we love...and i love that! thanks for letting us be a part of something so great!

we had the honor of being a part of two beautiful weddings this past weekend. the first was the wedding of kathryn and tim on saturday at riverbend farm on the biltmore estate. the ceremony was at sunset in the kitchen garden, with cocktail hour and reception in the historic horse barn ~ and it was just beautiful! we started the evening with the creamery open and finished it with a smokin' bonfire with a smores bar ~ yum! thanks to the bluegrass band, one leg up, for keeping the party going ~ you guys were great!
on sunday we had the pleasure of being a part of heidi and zak's wedding at highland lake inn in flat rock. the wedding was at noon, and what a beautiful day for a wedding! the bride arrived in horse and carriage, that was just breathtaking...we will be sure to post pictures when we get them!
also...a huge thanks to blossoms at biltmore park, who did the flowers and decor for both weddings ~ it was all just fantastic, as always!

there are lots of things i love in life. one of those is watching the university of south carolina gamecocks play football. on friday my husband and i drove to my hometown of columbia, sc [actually, chapin - but no one knows where that is]to watch my gamecocks play to win against mississippi state on saturday. we tailgated, yes even at 9 am in the morning, watched the game with my parents, and cheered so much i was physically sore on sunday! it was just a great game...and you can bet that i will be watching them play on thursday night against kentucky. all i can say, is...go cocks!

we had another great wedding weekend! on saturday, mary anne and gray were married at brahma ridge in candler, nc. this is a new event facility owned by holly berry and rob denton ~ and they were such great hosts! thanks! we had a beautiful tent from artful shelter, which in case you have not used before, are just wonderful and made right here in asheville!

we had a busy day on saturday the 15th! congrats to patty and david who got married on saturday at beautiful homewood, with the reception at the new event facility coleman place. thanks for letting us be a part of your day!
we also had the annual red cross gala saturday evening at the crest center and pavilion. what a fabulous event for a fabulous cause! i have been working on this since february, so it was great to see it all come together. it was a collaboration of a great committee of volunteers, and so great getting to know this group! we had great auction items~including a bmw, invasline braces, and ballroom dance lessons (which my husband and i won...i can't wait to put on my dancing shoes!). not a detail was left untouched, from the cake to the napkins to the swizel sticks...it was all just stunning. check out the pictures, all taken by my ever supporting husband :)

that's right, it is that time again! last year i got hired to plan the asheville area arts council white ball which was held on june 16 ~ 800 people, 4 parties, 1 night in downtown asheville. the committee i worked with was just so wonderful, that when i was asked to do it again this year, i could not help but be excited! so today is the day i start planning again. the color has yet to be decided, as that is done by the committee...so stay tuned, more to come soon!

on labor day weekend i had the pleasure of being with carrie and greg as they got married at beautiful homewood. [thanks monroe ~ you guys are just the best!] i have been working with carrie and greg since january, and have just loved every minute. they are such a great couple with the sweetest family and just so much fun, and i was truely honored to be a part of their special day. we got to work with photographers that are close to my heart, james and jenny tarpley with visio photography. we had great cake from cakes du jour and the place was hopping thanks to blake with jumping jukebox!

so i decided to update my blog when i am refreshed from a hawaiian vacation! what a fabulous time we had! we rented a jeep and toured the island of oahu ~ and we saw so many beautiful landscapes and just had so much fun! and the food ... well let’s just say i had to go for a run today :)
